Wooden pulley lamps

This wooden industrial pulley has been transformed into a pair of accent lamps.

We wanted a minimal look for this pair, which was accomplished by using the two haves of the wooden gear, pipe and Edison bulbs.

Display cabinet console table

Someone ask us if we wanted to take the remains of a glass display cabinet, after a customer broke the top piece of glass.

The cost to replace the glass top was too high, so he just wanted to get rid of it. We were happy to take it off of his hands, so we removed all the remaining glass and loaded it up. The drawers all had locks but no keys, so we pulled the locks and took them to a local locksmith. We did luck out and all the locks were keyed the same.

For the top we added a new piece and the same type for the shelf underneath. These drawers were on the backside of the display cabinet and were used to store items that were in the display (the customer did not see the drawers normally). We added the pipe legs and lettering on the drawer fronts.

Custom Industrial Bar Cart

We are excited about our industrial bar carts.

Our first cart was made for our Niece as a wedding gift and they had been hoping for a Coffee/Bar cart.

We customized the top with "Coppinger Coffee Bar" a coffee bean heart and the year of marriage Established  2016.

This bar is made from reclaimed horse stable wood, pipe and hand bent flat bar. Each cart comes on non marking wheels with 2 of the wheels that lock.

Here is a picture of the Coffee/Bar cart at their new home. The center shelf and wine glass rack are all handmade also. The wine rack is finished off with reclaimed wine corks.

Fan or kindred spirit?

Sometimes the things that catch you off guard are the best. That is what happened to us last weekend, we were caught completely off guard by what happened.

We had been out picking all morning at the local city wide garage sale. We filled the truck and in fact had to go back with the trailer to pick up a really big piece. We should have stopped and cleaned up before taking our latest creations to the shop, but we were just going to be in and out, right?

We had brought a new chandelier and a small piece of furniture. While making sure that the new items looked good in our space, someone stopped by our booth and informed us that he was very excited to meet us. So starts the off guard part, and this is just the beginning. Joe, introduces himself and informs us that he has purchased several of our lamps and that he has them prominently displayed in his house. We talk about the lamps that he purchased, one is the Curtiss Wright R3350 radial engine master control rod below.

Another is a cultivator wheel lamp and he commented on the pleasing shadowing that it cast on the wall, as pictured below.

During our conversation it is revealed that we have in fact purchased items from Joe also. Without knowing we had been buying items that Joe has been letting go from his collection. The small world starts to come to mind, or is it that kindred spirits of the junkers tribe are drawn to the same flame?

What happens next is definitely a first and caught us off guard the most. Joe actually asked if he could take a picture with us. What? Who? With Us? Of course we agreed, even in our been picking all day look, what an honor to have someone want to have a picture of the artist that created his lamps. (joe is in the middle)

So back to my original question. Does this make Joe a fan or kindred spirit?

We like to feel that the junker family members are all kindred spirits of a sort. We might have different approaches, and the junk might have different meanings to each of us, but we all can see something more than what it might be, we see what it can be.

Did I mention, someone asked to take a picture with us? How cool. Someone gets what we do and likes it enough to want it in their home. I will say it again, How cool is that.

Wooden Spool pipe leg coffee table DYI

What says industrial better than a wooden spool top burned to bring out the grain, with pipe legs?

So how we did it.We started with a 36" spool top. First check the spool well and make sure that there is not anything that will hurt someone sticking out. Next step, get a good char on the top. I use a roofing torch that hooks up to your grill propane tank.

Make sure to get it dark, as it will lighten up during the next step. Now comes the sanding, you will need to start out with a 150 grit and the paper will fill up fast from all the charring, so you will need to use several sheets. when it is closer to the colors that you are looking for, switch to 220 grit and get the top smooth as possible. Next you will want to seal the top with a clear sealer (no stain needed). We use a water based poly from Minwax.

Lastly, we build the pipe legs and attach them. For the legs, we use 3/4" pipe fittings. you will need the following 4 floor flanges, 1 cross, 4 elbows 90°, 4 couplings, 4 pipe nipples 12"(these attach to the cross and elbows), 8 pipe nipples 6"(these attach to the elbows then the couplings then second nipple then floor flange). You can change the nipple lengths to change the height. The pipe and fittings that I used are black (not galvanized), and as such they will have a light coating oil to protect them, you can leave just the oil, or you might want to clean off the oil and seal them with a clear coat spray paint.

The result is an awesome table that has a ton of personality that is 36" od x 17" tall.
